Obituary for Stephen Michael Ditzig
Stephen Ditzig, 69, of Brick died peacefully Thursday afternoon from complications following a heart attack. He was a kind, caring, and loving man who dedicated his life to his family. He enjoyed quiet nights at home with his devoted wife, and busy days helping his children and babysitting grandchildren. He had many roles in this world, but among them, his favorites were husband, Dad, and Pop Pop. He was an avid lover of the NY Yankees, the NY Giants, and the Beatles. He enjoyed playing the guitar and was proud to tell stories of his younger years when he played in a band. He could often be found standing on the sidelines to cheer on his children and grandchildren; going for his evening walk; or playing cards with friends Saturday nights. He was a friend to all and enjoyed conversations with everyone he met.
He was born and raised in Clifton, NJ. Steve and his wife were married in 1974 and moved to Brick, where they have resided for the entirety of their 46 years of marriage.
He graduated from Clifton High School in 1967, and William Patterson College of New Jersey in 1973. In 2012, he retired from Acme in Lincroft after 45 years with the company. He also taught elementary school for a short time in between. After retirement, he began working at Kohls in Brick.
Steve is predeceased by his mother, Lillian Ditzig; and his father, Steven Ditzig.
He is survived by: his wife, Diane Ditzig; their 3 children and their spouses, Stephen Ditzig and his wife, Tiffany of Howell; Chris Ditzig and his wife, Terese of Brick; Jennifer Fortunato and her husband, Steven of Belmar. Along with his 4 (soon to be 5) grandchildren: Summer, Viola, Bryson, Christopher, and he was proudly expecting another granddaughter to arrive in June. Also, his brother, Ronald Ditzig with his wife Kathy and their son David; his uncle, Martin Conserva; and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law, and countless friends, many of whom he considered family.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 from 1-5 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd., Brick. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, March 25th at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family RC Church, Lakewood. Cremation is private.
