Timothy J. Murphy, 84 years young, of Sea Girt, NJ died Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Jersey Shore Univ. Medical Center, Neptune. He was born and raised in The Bronx, NY and later resided in Scarsdale, NY before moving to Sea Girt, NJ and Vero Beach, Fl. Tim was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 1952. He then circumnavigated the globe while serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Following his service, he graduated from Fordham University with a bachelor’s degree in business, Class of 1960. His working career was spent at the Market Administration Office, New York, NY until his retirement.
Tim was a very proud American-Irishman; he was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, New York, NY and a member of the Kerrymen’s P & B Association, also in New York. Tim loved life and above all socializing with family and friends at the Jersey shore and in Florida. He was frequently found chatting it up with friends at Rays Café in Sea Girt and Joe’s Deli in Spring Lake. Irish nights at the Reef and Barrel (previously, Edgar’s) of Manasquan, was always a grand time enjoyed with his wife Mary and their friends.
Timothy was predeceased by his 1st wife Anne M. Murphy in 2004, and his son Timothy P. Murphy in 2007. Surviving are his wife Mary T. (nee Culhane; m. Campi) Murphy, a brother Michael J. Murphy of Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ, 5 grandchildren, Meaghan, Brian, Kerrianne, Joanmarie and Patrick Murphy. He also leaves numerous relatives behind: Brophy’s, Campi’s, Coffey’s, Conway’s, Doran’s, Ryan families and more.
A Funeral Mass will be Thursday, August 22, 2019, 9:30 AM at St. Mark’s Church, 215 Crescent Pkwy., Sea Girt, NJ. Committal will follow in St. Anne Cemetery, Wall. O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall is in charge of arrangements, www.obrienfuneralhome.com.
