Obituary for Sheila Mary Donohue (Driscoll)
Sheila Mary Donohue, 81, of Spring Lake NJ passed away Sunday August 18, 2019.
Sheila was born and raised in the Bronx where she fell in love with and married her husband of almost 60 years, Martin Donohue. After the Bronx, Sheila and Martin moved to Haworth NJ to raise their family before residing in Spring Lake.
Sheila was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Manhattan, class of 1956. She used her education and profound common sense to successfully raise five children during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s (and her children will be forever grateful for it.) For her entire life, she was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and could even be seen during her last days moving her feet to Irish music.
Sheila was predeceased by her father Cornelius Driscoll, her mother Abigail, her brother Pat and her sister Mary Driscoll Mitchell.
Surviving is her husband Martin, her son Marty Donohue (and wife Marea), her daughters Joanie Donohue, Maura Brennan (and husband Patrick), Kathleen Parker (and husband Chris), and Deidre Donohue. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Kevin, Kathleen and Robert Donohue, Jack and Mallory Brennan, and Kyle, Dennis and Riley Parker.
Sheila was an absolute one of a kind; a great and spirited wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family, her dogs, her books, her crossword puzzles, and her endless walks along the Spring Lake boardwalk so she could take in what she always called “my ocean”.
She will be truly missed, and never duplicated. Godspeed, Mom.
A funeral mass will be held this Thursday August 22 at 10:30 am at St. Catharine’s Church on West Lake Avenue in Spring Lake NJ.
