Obituary for Peter A. Walsh
Peter A. Walsh was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on October 6, 1961, the third of what would eventually be five children born to Francis J. and Mary Louise Walsh. Peter, affectionately known to his family as Moose, was raised in Westfield, graduating from Westfield High School in 1979. He attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and Kean College. He loved sports and entertainment, and was able to break into that industry as a salesman for the New Jersey Generals. He then moved to the west coast, and worked for the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings.
Peter never tired of going to sporting events and concerts, and attended thousands. He would travel anywhere at any time for a great show, his favorite being Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
Eventually, Peter moved home to the east coast, living in Florida for a time and then home in New Jersey. He suffered a stroke some years back, which impaired his short-term memory. After that, he lived with his parents and, since his mother, Mary Lou’s death, some four years ago, lived with his father in Spring Lake. Moose’s job was to be the day-to-day support for his Dad, but in truth they kept an eye on each other. He leaves behind his father, Francis of Spring Lake, and his siblings: Kathleen Grace Walsh of Woodbridge, Virginia; the Hon. Thomas J. and Diane Walsh of Westfield; and Carol Ann Walsh of Lutz, Florida. Peter was predeceased by his brother, Jim, who perished in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, but is survived by his sister in law, Kate Walsh Calton. He also leaves nine nieces and nephews, Mark, Conner and Kate Karlen; 1st Lt. Thomas F.X. Walsh; Taylor, Michael and Morgan Murphy; and Caroline and Fiona Walsh Calton, as well as his beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
Peter was a weekly communicant at Sts. Catherine and Margaret R.C. Church in Spring Lake, and there will be a requiem Mass on 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at St. Catharine Church. Friends are invited to call at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Friday, September 6, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tuesday’s Children (tuesdayschildren.org).
