So sorry to hear of Michael's passing. I have very fond memories of Mike from St. Bart's and EB high school playing football and just hanging out, laughing and sharing stories. On behalf of the Bastkowski family, our sincerest condolences to the Gangi family.

Rest in peace Mike...

Seeing Michael's pictures reminded me of how fortunate we all are to have known him. Michael knew how to laugh and always had a quick and witty comment to add to any conversation. Michael was also strong and courageous when we were on the football team together in high school he began losing weight significantly, as a guard on our offensive line his job was to move defenders out of the way. His heart and determination took over and he kept fighting as he was being weakened by the colitis. Michael also knew how to love and fight for what was right. He treasures his family and was quick to defend his younger brother John, in fact that is how I met Mike, we got into a fight defending our little brothers. I treasure all my memories of my time in the Gangi home because of the genuine love and unconditional acceptance I felt. One of the funniest moments I shared with Michael occurred in 6th grade at St. Barts. We were on a bathroom break and the nuns would walk groups of us down to the bathroom and listen outside the door to insure we were not getting into any trouble. Sister Adrain was our teacher, we started wrestling around in the bathroom and Billy O'Brien made a break for the escape, Michael was close on his heels, he flew out of the bathroom and then raced back in the other door, only to exit again. But this time Michael captured him behind the exit door and began pushing the door against the wall. I came out the other door to pull Billy out and to my shock discovered Sister Adrain with her glasses falling off her face and her habit all twisted. To her credit she took the beating like a champ and I don't think we even got in trouble for that one. It may have been the delirium of her concussion... good times.
Thank you for sharing the beautiful pictures, I love the one that looks like Michael was crying as his daughter went off to the prom. You can see how much his loves all his girls.

So heartbroken. I was blessed to call Michael my best friend for many years through our years together at St. Bartholomew's and into our High School years. So many wonderful memories, Spot the golf ball dog, "god damish wincent", our football years together. Mom and Dad Gangi, always so generous and kind. Sending love to Vincent, Rose, Paul and John and Mom. Joanne praying for you and Nicole. Love to all, Paul Flannigan
