Obituary for Marjorie Connelly (Cunningham )
Marjorie Connelly, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Wellington Estates in Spring Lake, NJ. Born in the Bronx, Marjorie moved to Midland Beach, Staten Island where she grew up, met her husband and raised her family. Marjorie was a faithful member of St. Margaret Mary’s Parrish where she sang in the choir for many years with her sister, Patricia “Bunny” Hoefig. After graduating from Notre Dame College of Staten Island, she worked as an Advertising Assistant for Tea and Coffee Trade Journal in New York before retiring in 1951. Marjorie moved to Brick, NJ in 1992 where she met many new friends, was a member of several bridge clubs and the Golden Tones. Marjorie was a communicant of St. Dominic’s RC Church in Brick for many years.
She had an infectious smile, a great sense of humor and loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, William and Margaret Cunningham; her beloved husband, Edwin J. Connelly in 2005; her daughter, Susan Matheson in 2013 and her sister, Patricia Hoefig.
Surviving are her sons, Gerard (Maureen), John (Marion), Edwin (Teresa), her daughter Alyce Connelly, son in law, James Matheson, her 11 grandchildren, Robert (Colleen), Allison, Patrick (Mary), John (Katherine), Christopher, James, Shannon, Megan, Erin, Tara and Kathleen; her six great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Samantha, Matthew, Grace, Brendan and Daniel.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 3-7 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd., Brick. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, July 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic’s RC Church, Brick followed by the interment at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery, Wrightstown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Serenity Hospice Care 56 Georgetown Road Bordentown, NJ 08585 (www.SerenityHospiceNJ.com) would be appreciated.
