Obituary for James T. Bonsper

James T. Bonsper, retired Jersey City Fire Captain, of Wall Twp. and formerly of The Villages, FL., and Jersey City passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Alcouer Gardens, Ocean Twp. with his devoted family at his bedside.
James was born and raised in Jersey City and after his retirement, retired to The Villages, FL for 10 years, where he enjoyed playing golf. As a resident of Jersey City, he was a Parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Parish.
James proudly served as a firefighter for over 25 years, spending most of his time at Engine 17, Truck 11 on Boyd Ave., then as a Captain in the Hazmat Unit before retiring in 1994. After retirement he worked part time for the City in Fire Prevention, then at Fire Dispatching.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Abigail Mowat Bonsper.
Surviving is his devoted wife of 58 years Arlene (nee Smith) Bonsper, his 3 daughters and their spouses Mary Ellen DelFino and husband Robert of Middletown, Maureen Cosgrove and husband Daniel of Spring Lake, and Sharon DeCresce and husband Philip of Wood Ridge, and his 5 grandchildren Francseco Dolce, Nicholas DelFino, Emily DeCresce, Maeve Cosgrove, and Philip DeCresce.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall Twp., NJ, 07719 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 9:00am in St. Catharine’s Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake, NJ 07762. Private committal will be at the convenience of the Bonsper family.
